Courtney Holt named President of Myspace Music

“The core of the music business has and always will be creative energy, the inspiration and raw talent of an artist. However, to find, develop, and deliver creative content to audiences around the world, you need a solid business infrastructure. Lately, this infrastructure has started to change dramatically. As Holt describes it, “I have spent most of my career in the non-core side of businesses whose core has been challenged by the platforms and initiatives that were my domain. This has made for some challenging landscapes…it is up to new thinking and ideas to evolve the business and chart new courses.” On the topic of generating new ideas in the music business, Holt goes on to say, “You can easily spend all of your time fighting to maintain current audiences or build for the new. Getting legacy thinking around this is a hard challenge, but good ideas are just that and while you can root a good idea in the past, it needs to be fluid in the current landscape.” (Source)

Common’s Mind Control

Check this interview that Pitchfork did with Common, discussing his new album, which is a serious departure from his previous work:

“What I’m thinking in my mind and wanting you to feel, you will feel, because I’m gonna create music that will make you feel it.” And it’s also symbolic of the global sound that I wanted to create, something universal, something that would touch all parts of the world, ’cause that’s what it was inspired by.”

Kanye West is Sky High with Free Remix Album

“Meh”

“Publisher HarperCollins announced Monday the word had been chosen from terms suggested by the public for inclusion in the dictionary’s 30th anniversary edition, to be published next year.

The origins of “meh” are murky, but the term grew in popularity after being used in a 2001 episode of “The Simpsons” in which Homer suggests a day trip to his children Bart and Lisa.

The dictionary defines “meh” as an expression of indifference or boredom, or an adjective meaning mediocre or boring. Examples given by the dictionary include “the Canadian election was so meh.”

The National

After a year or so of obsessively listening to The National’s “Boxer,” I finally dug into their older work.  Their previous album, “Alligator” is not as polished as their more recent work, but it still shows their songwriting at it’s absolute best: insightful, affecting, with a beautiful, rich melancholy.  There is just something so pure and American about this band.  Here are two of the album’s standout tracks.

The National- The Geese of Beverly Hills

The National- All the Wine
