ISO50 + David Byrne Radio

I wanted to take a chance and clue all of you in on my two favorite internet radio playlists; the only problem with internet radio/playlists/podcasts, really, is that there is just too much great stuff out there.  For me, to filter through the clutter I have to go to a trusted source.

I’ve spent all morning studying and tuning into the brand new ISO50 playlist, put together by Tycho and the other writers of the ISO50 blog.  It is an interesting journey into indie, idm, and more, and it will feature a rotating selection of tracks.  The other trusted source comes from David Byrne, who puts out a new list monthly, featuring different themes each month.  This month it is gospel, last month it was South American music he picked up on his most recent trip down there.  WIth Byrne, it is always going to be something stimulating and interesting.

Lifelike Brings the Disco to WMC

My new dancefloor obsession is Lifelike, who has been dropping the heat with synthed-out disco bangers.  He recently released his Sunset/Sequencer single to huge acclaim, this one is his take on a more vocal “Ibiza” style of house.  Check his remix of Rock This Town by Dimitri in Paris right here.  Thanks to hyperbole for the link.

At this moment it is still unconfirmed, but it looks like Lifelike will be joining the lineup for Friday Night at White Room in Miami.

IHEARTCOMIX + Turntable Lab Party At WMC

Just got word that Our House West of Wynwood will be hosting a party during Winter Music Conference. The Allapattah gallery hasn’t been open for long, but it’s quickly becoming a favorite. It’s already hosted numerous parties, include a string of them during Art Basel that we’re easily some of my favorite during the week, so why wouldn’t they take WMC as an opportunity to have another one?

In fact, O.H.W.O.W. will be hosting a 12-hour marathon (from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) Saturday, March 28, featuring artists from Mad Decent, Turntable Lab and IHEARTCOMIX. The full line-up includes Diplo, Switch, Sega, Rusko (UK), South Rakkas Crew, Party Squad (Amsterdam), Mobroder (feat Spank Rock), Hardy Boys, Roctakon, DJ Eli Escobar, Blue Jemz, Unemployed Lloyd, sTerrYo, Drop The Lime, The Captain, Star Eyes, Franki Chan, Acid Girls, Toxic Avenger and Designer Drugs.

But the venue is still a gallery, so expect to see a photo show by Hamburger Eyes, as well.

And the best part is that the party is F-R-E-E! And like previous O.H.W.O.W. events, alcohol will be free as well. Talk about recession friendly!  (Source)

What Is A Song Episode Five with Grovesnor

It has been awhile since we added to this our inquiry into what it is that makes a great song work.  To find out, we try to find insight into the songwriting process from out favorite artists.  Great songwriting is not limited by genre, lyrics, style…. it is something intangible.  Read on to find out what Grovesnor has to say about his process, which included creating an alter ego and writing music and lyrics to go with his characters fictional life. Then check the track below for a sample track.

“The songs I write are really escapist, almost fantastical, so I wanted a name that was more like a character.  grovesnor could be a British baron, living a life far more exotic and romantic than I actually lead”, says Rob Smoughton, introducing his noble electro-soul alias.”  Grovesnor’s crooning pillow talk has an almost kitschy gloss, inspired by 70s songwriters Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen as well as the psychedelia of 60s NYC duo Silver Apples.  “It’s slightly tongue-in-cheek but not novelty”, explains Rob. “It’s an homage, but to do it well you really have to love it, which I do.”  (Source)
