Free Del Tha Funky Homosapien Album

You read it right… Del is giving us a brand new album- not just a singles collection, or b sides, but a full scale project, with a nationwide tour to support the release.

(April 29, 2009 – Brooklyn, NY) Less than a year after the release of his last album, Hieroglyphics member and co-founder Del the Funky Homosapien joins the ranks of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails with the free release of his new album, Funk Man: The Stimulus Package via Funnyman Entertainment. Del is currently on a nationwide promotional tour for the album and will be playing in over 30 cities.

As an early adapter of technology and having the status and perspective only a veteran can possess, Del takes advantage of his unique position to adopt a still experimental distribution strategy with Funk Man’s release. Even with longevity, very few artists can hope to successfully launch a free full-length album. However with Del the Funky Homosapien’s solid fan base and sponsorship deals with Arnette, Skull Candy, Osiris Shoes, and Bandcamp.com,Funk Man’s release not only ensures support for the creative process, but also gives fans easy access to music they crave.

Shades Of Redd Dance Showcase 2009

My boys over at ShadesOfRedd are throwing off another dope event this week- a dance showcase featuring a history lesson in dance styles. Featuring Dj Ivan Diaz and Dj Stellar, this event takes place this thursday night at the Art Institute Fort Lauderdale main parking lot.  Check their write-up below.

“Good things come to those who wait.” This is going to be a memorable event which will carry you through the many different styles of dance and which decade they were birthed into. Don’t quite get it yet? Don’t know too much about swing dancing or capoeira, then now is your time to learn. There will even be free food! Most of all, just prepare to be blown away with the variety of dance. I personally can’t wait to learn a few moves to add to my arsenal. See you there!”

Remix Monday with Ted and Francis

Australian duo Ted and Francis are joining a long list of electronic artists from down under creating interesting, soulful electro/disco music. Cut Copy, New Young Pony Club, The Presets…  could be why Rollingstone is starting an Australian edition. Anyway, I wanted to share with you my favorite track from them, Erlend, along with a smooth Rnb remix by G.L.O.V.E.S. Just another reminder how innovative and refreshing a remix can be. Buy their new EP here. Seriously.

Finale with J. Dilla- New Joint

“The successes of J Dilla have served as inspiration and driving motivation for all Detroit artists. For Finale, who himself received a personal Dilla co-sign early in his career, it’s only fitting that the emcee has a song on his album, A Pipe Dream And A Promise, produced by the late legend. That song is appropriately titled ”Heat.” Speaking about creating the song and being able to work with Dilla, Finale says, “It was off a beat CD, but it was done before he passed away and I was able to build with him about it before he passed. I did three joints with him off the beat CDs he sent me; ‘Heat’ ended up being one of the joints we did. I look at that joint more like a tribute.”

“Before making his entrance into hip-hop, Finale worked as an automotive engineer promising to one day follow his dream of becoming a rapper. Making the rounds at local Detroit open mics and emcee battles, Finale began to mingle with local talents like Guilty Simpson and One.Be.Lo. After emailing some joints back and forth withJ Dilla, Finale finally met him backstage at the DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival), where Dilla introduced him toMadlib, saying that he was one of the best in the game. “It was an honor and definitely a defining moment,” says Finale. After realizing his passion and talent for hip-hop, Finale decided to finally quit his day job, follow his true passion, and make music a full-time career.”  Buy It Here.

Upcoming Twilight Notes Events…

Going to be a busy couple of weeks for us here at Twilight Notes… just wanted to give everyone a quick rundown on our upcoming events in May.  Adam Foster is continuing his residency at the O Lounge, and we are working with Enticement Design and the Sun Sentinel’s Society Scene for some exciting events in June. Look forward to seeing you all out there this month!

Thursday May 21st- Steven Shailer Farewell Party

A fundraiser event for my dear friend Steven Shailer. To show our support and affection, we will be hosting a celebration in his honor at the Lago Mar Hotel and Beach Club on Thursday evening, May 21stat 5:30 – 8PM.  Please email me at adam@twilightnotes.com for information regarding RSVP and donations.

Thursday May 28th- A memorial day weekend kick off event at the exchange lofts.  We are taking it to the roof! Finally. More details and info to follow… this one is still in its planning stages.

The Field and Juan Maclean in Miami…

A very impressive list of shows coming into the area in the next couple months; Bon Iver, Animal Collective, Kings Of Leon, Crystal Method, The Orb with Orchard Lounge.. whew.  More updates on those as they come up… However, one upcoming show really captures my attention- The Juan Maclean and The Field.  Though their music is very different, both represent a real breakthrough in creating live electronic music with a band.  The Field is has an avant gard sound, very grounded in the sound experiments of Phillip Glass and his collleauges, while the Juan Maclean is a straight disco dance party band.

Dillanthology Vol. One Available Now

Had to give everyone the heads up on this one- cop this right about… here. Thanks to OkayPlayer for the write-up.

“Awe-inspiring.” “Legendary.” “Revolutionary.” “Genius.” The accolades bestowed upon producer James Yancey both before and after his tragic death in February 2006 are countless. From his forming of Slum Village at age 14 to the posthumously released beats of today, Yancey’s productions on albums such as Donuts, The Shining, and Welcome 2 Detroit have moved heads the world over for years. The depth of Dilla’s legacy, both with his own group and for others, is incomparable. Throughout his career, the producer has worked with nearly every major emcee in hip-hop, including Common, The Roots, De La Soul and The Pharcyde, and it’s this work for other emcees that gets the treatment on Dillanthology Volume 1.

“This is the first in a series of planned albums focusing on different aspects of the illustrious producer’s career. In the coming months, look for separate volumes for both his remix work and production on his own projects.”

‘With Dilla, there was no such thing as a “standard beat.” Each production was a mini-masterpiece filled with curves but avoiding any sense of gimmickry. Whether it’s turning Stan Getz’s bossa-laced “Saudade Vem Correndo” into The Pharcyde’s “Drop,” or jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal’s “Swahililand” into De La
Soul
’s high-energy commentary on hip-hop “Stakes is High,” Dilla’s expertise made even the most ubiquitous of samples unrecognizable.”
