K-OS… brings the chaos

Need a lift? Some energy to get through the week?  Check this track from Canadian artist K-OS… Rockabilly/Hip Hop/Indie/Dance… who cares?  This track rocks my socks.

“K-os, born Kevin Brereton, is a genuine neo-crossover rap n’ roller who’s music, much like your Ipod, might speak to hipster club kidz, pop chart gazers, Canadian indie rockers, dirty south electronic rap renegades, or reggae rude boys simultaneously. As it should – his rhyme and crooning skills took root in arguably the most polyglot and multi-cultural city on the planet, Toronto.”

Listen here to “Vallhalla” featuring Kevin Drew and Sam Roberts from Broken Social Scene.

Check this track by Relation, the newest dark electro pop group from the UK to garner international attention.  This remix by newcomer lazerdisco brings out the atmospheric, emotional energy of the song.  Don’t just listen to me, read what the tastemakers are saying…

Relation- Your Tiny Mind (LazerDisco Remix)

“Relation succeed in projecting an image of suave maturity….The use of beats is the highlight of the album, combining smoothness with obvious technical cleverness to make something both smart and modern. Warm and likeable – not a bad start at all. “
Vanguard Online

“There’s no shortage of quality song-writing on this set, and although the production is smooth, there’s also plenty of texture woven into the sonic fabric of the tracks….The often breezy and upbeat sequenced backings belie the lyrical content, which is often keenly observed and frequently moves into the realms of socio-political observation and commentary. 8/10”

Imagine it…

As I put together my set for Twilight Notes forthcoming “Entourage”  event, I came across this lost hip hop gem.  Taken from Snoop Dogg’s Tha Blue Carpet album, this one features Dr. Dre and D’Angelo trading verses across a thumping, jazzy hip hop beat.  Imagine hip hop never happened.  Imagine no rapping.

James Yull- This Sweet Love (Prins Thomas Remix)

Listen here… to this beautiful remix of James Yull’s track “Time After Time.”  It was released on the newest Kitsune compliation.  Prins Thomas puts his slow, momentum building touch on the track, letting it slowly peak with a chorus of acoustic guitar, sweet voice, and simple percussion.  Less is more.

“James Yuill is an English folktronica musician from London, currently signed to the Moshi Moshi record label. His songs combine the intimate, emotional roots of folk with the cold, stark production style of modern electronica.”

“Atmospheric and acoustic, check the contrast between the simplicity of the voice and the richness of the Prins Thomas remix. Extremely beautiful song, another vision of the sun. Because we’re talking of a maison and not a barn, Kitsuné likes to relax but not let go totally.”
