Mixed In Key Announces Contest Winners

The challenge was: Showcase your favorite music genre in a 10-15 minute mix that will impress our judges
which includes some of the world’s best DJs.  The mix has to be 100% harmonic.  The mix must inspire listeners to become fans of that music genre,  take the listener on a journey, and showcase innovation in harmonic mixing.  These are the 20 winning dj mixes.  They span a variety of genres, from house to dubstep, with the winning dj mix in a downtempo/chillout style.  All of these mixes are worth a listen, especially if you’re a dj, to show how much harmonic mixing can improve your technique.

Orchard Lounge and Miguel Migs at Vagabond

December will be a big month at the Vagabond in downtown Miami.  On the weekend of December 11th and 12th, they will have Nu Disco heroes Classixx, and on Saturday the 12th they will have deep, funky, house legend Miguel Migs.  I will be playing that night at Yolo on Las Olas, and as soon as we do last call I am headed straight to Miami.  Then, at the end of the month, Chicago’s own Orchard Lounge will be at the Vagabond on December 28th.  These three are my favorite Dj collective, and they hardly ever make it out to Miami, so it is sure to be a special night.  Check out this link for a full lineup of Orchard Lounge dj mixes.

New Spoon Album Coming Soon

The most stylish, creative, balls to the wall, generally most badass band in rock will be releasing a new album in the new year… how long, you ask?  Very, very soon… it is coming in January.  In the meantime, here is a little old school Spoon to hold you over..

Spoon- My Mathematical Mind

“Just when we thought Spoon topped-out when it came to making staggeringly consistent indie rock albums, they kept on doing us one better. Considering these guys were responsible for three of our favorite albums of the decade, we’re hoping they can come up with as much greatness in the 2010s.

So, Happy Friday: The band’s seventh LP, Transference, is due out January 26 in North America via Merge and January 25 in Europe via Anti-.  The record features 11 songs produced by the band, including recent single “Got Nuffin”, not to mention tracks called “I Saw the Light” and “Out Go the Lights”. Lights, people, lights!”

Message For The Dj from Delano Smith

Here it is- a message for the DJ, from one of the originals: Mr. Delano Smith.  Check his podcasts here. Check the message below, plus the remix by Jimpster.  The short version is: Keep it deep. Keep it soul.

“As well as running Mixmode, Smith holds down a weekly residency in Detroit and regularly embarks on tours of Europe and Japan alongside Mike “Agent X” Clark and Norm Talley in order to spread the gospel of “Detroit Beatdown.” Beatdown is more of an aesthetic than a rigidly defined style but the trio’s sets take deep, soulful house as a base before branching off into disco, techno and broken beat.”

For us at Twilight Notes, our weekend goes like this: tonight at Exit 66 Rock Bar for HEATER featuring DJ Esoteric, downtown Miami Saturday, and Sunday evening we’ll be at Samba Room Las Olas for our weekly art/music event.

New RJD2 Label and EP

Big news this week coming from RJD2, one of my all time favorites.  Here is the short version: new 7 song EP, a new label called RJ’s Electrical Connections, re-releases of a few older records with some new tracks, new album due out in early 2010, and an all vinyl box set featuring his full, complete albums.  The best news is that the new EP is the RJ we know and love, he is back to sampling records and creating something new, something sweet, funky and soulful. Mmmmm…

Heater Party with Dj Esoteric!

We here at Twilight Notes are very excited about two things this week: our first trip back to Heater after its long hiatus, and our good friend Esoteric’s headlining set!  See you there…

Puma Presents the 700 Level

Usually we keep our posts here about music, but as a Philadelphia sports fan I had to re-post this from my friends at Ropeadope.
“Between the times of 1971 – 2003 at Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium was a place called the 700 Level on the stadium’s upper deck. This was a place for notorious sports fans of Philly. The infamous fans rocked so hard they had built a courtroom into the stadium to try and tame them. Puma just dropped the illiest of ill kicks paying tribute to the 700 level – peep them out here. A video on the 700 level here.”
