Happy New Year + Holy Ghost Winter Mix

Happy New Year to you, and me, and all of us together.  2009 was a great year for us, and we are so excited for 2010.  There are too many people to thank, so just know that if you’re reading this, we love you and are so grateful for your support.

Now, follow this link to get some bumping disco tracks for your new years eve- Holy Ghost released this mixtape of their best remixes.  Hot, hot hot…

As another bonus, here are some unreleased versions of a couple of the remixes that HG found sitting around…

Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire (Jerry’s Drum Dub) World’s greatest drummer + 2 Space Echoes + Two Spring Reverbs = Nice.

Moby – I Love To Move In Space (Space Echo Return Dub) Just a bunch of pretty bits recorded directly to the super worn out 1/4″ tape in a Roland Space Echo.

Only Fools & Horses – Spectacle Wins (Holy Ghost! Extended Disco Dub) When we did this remix we made two versions fearing the label wouldn’t like the vocals we added. Luckily they did and that version got released. This is the alternate, instrumental, way more dubby version that never saw the light of day.

New Yeasayer Record + Free mp3

My prediction is that this is the first big indie record of 2010.  Brooklyn based Yeasayer are set to release their new record, “Odd Blood” early next year.  This record only improves on the strengths of the first album, they are still experimental and a bit wild, but they have clearly grown up, with more developed songwriting and thicker electronic instrumentation.  Connect with them on facebook, check their tourdates, and definately grab this free mp3 of their new single, ambling alp.

Million Young

Last night I had the pleasure of playing an opening dj set for Million Young, local indie/electronic artist.  His set blew me away- spacey, emotional, atmospheric.. slow, pulsing disco… Turns out I am the last to know about this. Check this link from Pitchfork, become a fan on facebook, and follow to his myspace here for tourdates and to download a free EP.

MillionYoung ‘s hypnagogic, late night, loping pop loops bloom in the shadows of delirious dream territories; Mike Diaz’s aching, arching, always overhead vocals floating lonely above an effervescent, imagined coastal paradise of found tribal drum snippets, syrupy synth rushing and brilliantly colourful, drawn-out circular guitars that just absolutely refuse to fade or break, shading braincells in never-lived nostalgia; making stomachs shift with strange sickness in a beautiful, unshakeable way.- Transparent Blog

Sad/Beautiful

Dear, friends:

We are extremely saddened at the loss of our dear friend and mentor Steven Shailer, who died monday night.  His life was a shining example to all of us who hope to live a more passionate, exciting, and full life.  There was a message: “live in the present moment, always come from the heart, see the world, have discipline, meditate, play tennis, love women, love life, create art, eat right, above all, do not accept mediocrity, in anything we do.”  We will miss the laughter, the wisdom, and the love that we all felt. He changed the course of our lives forever, and what we learned from him will we never forget.  Our deepest sympathies go out to the Shailer family.

Neil Young- Old Man  (From Steven’s Favorite Musician)

On a much brighter note, we want to congratulate Matylda and Brian Mcllvenny, who had their first child, Malina, monday night.  Here’s to hoping she has as much spunk, attitude, and talent as her mother. Matylda has been a part of our little family since the beginning.  Thanks again for everything.

Tycho-Daydream  (One of Matyldas favorites)

This is life, I suppose.  It doesn’t always make sense.  It comes and it goes.  It is sad, but its always beautiful.

New Mark Farina Dj Mix

Check this free mix from OM Records’ Mark Farina, live in San Francisco, where it all started.

“Celebrating Om’s 15 Year Anniversary in San Francisco, we’re proud to present Mark Farina’s live dj set from Mezzanine on August 14th, 2009. Playing after Metro Area, Mark Farina brought the house funk with an incredible hour and half set.”

“Since the early 90’s Mark has taken fans on a journey to the jazzy side of Chicago house mixed with his San Fran style. This is an extremely rare treat to be able to download a live set from one of North America’s top DJ. One of the original artist on Om helped to celebrate 15 years of Om Records in the city that we call home.”
