So we are a day late on this one, but its too good to ignore- Soul Clap released this mix yesterday in honor of valentines day. Fortunately for us (and you) we choose to celebrate V-day for a whole week- at least. Thanks to Oki-Ni for sponsoring this release, full of slow jams, bossa-nova, funk, soul, and disco.

“With a love of funk, disco, house and everything else in between, the pair have raided their respective record collections for songs that vibrate at a certain romantic frequency. The result is 59 minutes of aural sex, spanning the vocal spectrum from the high sensual wail of Prince to the deep baritone croon of Barry White.”

“The Soul Clap guys – Charles Levine and Eli Goldstein – had this to say about their mix: “This year for valentine’s day we’ve done something a little different. Instead of a mix to share with two we’ve made it for one. A three part story for all your intimate bedroom fun.”

Bonobo set to release a new collection of remixes from his Black Sands album, released last year on Ninjatune. We have been listening to his records since “Dial M for Monkey,” when his sound still being developed. He has gone from Dj Shadow style sample based downtempo/instrumental hip hop to becoming a composer and songwriter, stitching together samples with new compositions and guest musicians and vocalists. Black Sands was something of a milestone- a commercial and critical success. Now you hear his songs everywhere from Starbucks, at the lounge or at the salon.

The remixes come from a variety of producers, but mostly from the leaders of the new UK bass scene like machinedrum, fattyDL, and floating points. Follow this link below to listen to samples, check tourdates and buy the record.

Via Consequence Of Sound:

Talk about a dream team…. looks like the Gorillaz are teaming up with icons James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and Andre 3000 (Outkast) for a brand new track to be released in two short weeks. I dont know if I could think of three people Id like to see working together more. Thanks to converse and their ad budget for making this possible- looks like art and commerce can coexist. The gorillaz are also creating a limited edition shoe for Converse.

“According to The Sun‘s Bizarre blog, those are the three artists to take part in the latest installment of Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” project. Their track, entitled “DoYaThing”, will be available on Converse’s website starting February 23rd.

Bizarre adds that the “DoYaThing” has a similar beat to tracks on Gorillaz’s most recent LP, Plastic Beach, and sees Damon Albarn rapping the opening two verses. There’s also reportedly a 12-minute explicit version, which will be released at a later date.

To go along with the track, Gorillaz’s Jamie Hewlett has created a music video featuring “a baboon in a martial arts outfit and a masked topless bloke.”

We can’t wait.

Twilight Notes is proud to present our newest Dialect compilation, the tenth in our series. The Dialect podcast is released to coincide with our Dialect event, which brings together an eclectic array or artwork and live performances. Dialect is about our personal expression. We created the Dialect series to showcase music that would not typically be included in one of our Dj mixes.

Each month, Adam Foster painstakingly selects and sequences our favorite tracks across all genres, where the cutting edge meets the timeless, and each song tells a chapter in our story. This music is who we are.

One of our long running favorite bands, The National, have debuted two new songs last week on Q tv at the Glenn Gould studio in Toronto. These songs are true to form, wistful, heavy, emotive- and would sound right at home on Boxer or High Violet. The National have also announced that they are ready to start recording their next album.

In my opinion, in twenty years we will look back on The National as being one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. Get ready for another American classic. Check the new song below, and take a listen to the Barbican Podcast as Aaron Dressner discusses his ongoing multi-media project, The Long Count, which brings together singers, songwriters, video artists, and a 12 piece orchestra.

Nice treat for you guys today… one of our favorite indie/electronic artists M83 gets remixed by one of our favorite progressive house producers, Eric Prydz. This is a match made in heaven, as both artists have a flair for creating epic, synth driven electronic music. M83 is slower, better suited for personal and home listening while Eric Prydz makes peak hour tracks built for the club. The resulting remix gives a nice dance floor feel to M83′s hit from last years “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” album, one of our favorite releases from 2011.

Hope you are enjoying you afternoon as much as we are. Every Sunday we are sharing our favorite ambient, electronic, lo-fi, and post-rock tracks from our library.

For this week’s edition of Sunday Bliss we are featuring Blue Sky Black Death, who were originally crate digging hip hop/downtempo producers, but on their latest album, “Noir,” Blue Sky Black Death have expanded their sound into an epic, sprawling soundscape built almost entirely from samples. We featured their track “Sky With Hand” as the closer to Vol. 8 of our Dialect compilation series (link below) and today we have another one of our favorites to share.

Listen. Drift.

Another reason to love this guy:

“There has never been a store at jamielidell.com before so to celebrate Jamie has signed ALL of the current inventory of CDs and Vinyl! Every single one is different cuz Jamie is nuts and spent many many many hours making them special. Most even have lil drawings and face graffiti so if you don’t like that sorta thing- beware!” - xoLidell HQ

To hold you over, here is one of our favorite tracks from Lidell’s 2010 album, “Compass,” remixed by Beck.

“Original soundtrack to the 2011 motion picture composed by Sigur Ros main man Jon Thor Birgisson AKA Jonsi. Written and recorded in short order, over four months this summer/fall at the famous Village Studios in Los Angeles and at the singer’s home studio in his native Iceland, the soundtrack to We Bought a Zoo comprises more than half-an-hour of brand new music from Jonsi, including two full songs and nine achingly beautiful themes, plus songs from Jonsi’s acclaimed solo album, Go, as well as what might well be regarded as Sigur Ros’ most memorable tune, in ‘Hoppipolla’. Orchestral arrangements on the score have been handled by previous Jonsi working partner, and ‘Reader’ soundtrack composer, Nico Muhly, who brings his quixotic genius to the string and brass sections.”
